How are tattoos removed?
Tattoos are removed with various lasers, including the Enlighten from Cutera. Additional methods include dermabrasion, salabrasion, surgery, and CO2 lasers, but they can leave behind scarring where the tattoo was.
Does the procedure produce any pain?
The laser emits pulses, which will have the same feeling as the snap of a rubber band. An injectable or topical numbing substance will be provided to negate any pain. Dr. Aldridge and his team will make sure you are comfortable throughout the experience.
Will there be a scar left behind?
With lasers, there is a low chance of scarring, especially if you follow after-care instructions. Patients may see a higher risk of scarring if they are pregnant (treatment not recommended for pregnant patients), have dark skin tone, are poorly circulated, or have immune system deficiencies. For other conditions that increase your risk of scarring, please discuss them with Dr. Aldridge.
Will all colors of ink be removed?
Different colors have different responses to treatment. Black ink generally removes the best, while red, pink, orange and warmer colors also have positive responses. Purple and yellow ink have more favorable responses, but can be unpredictable in some cases. Lasers must be used to remove green, teal, and blue ink.
Does the tattoo completely disappear?
In most cases, the tattoo will be removed satisfactory. However, there are hundreds of types of tattoo ink that remain untested.
